For those really damp, tough areas it’s always good to go with a strong dehumidifier that is very reliable. Living in the tropics, I know firsthand how damaging the effects of high humidity can be. Moisture can seep in areas all over your home and cause wood damage and rot, and create welcoming environments for mold, mildew, and dust mite breeding colonies. Not only that but it can cause health problems like allergy symptoms and exacerbate your asthma. So you really need a quality dehumidifier to get the job done and dry out that air. The GE ADER65LN dehumidifier is an excellent model and it has GE’s high reputation for quality backing it up. Here are some details.

Please note that GE recently upgraded all of their LN dehumidifier models to the LP series. That includes the 65, 50, 40, and 30 pint models. The newer versions have many of the same features and a nearly identical design. The primary differences lie in the efficiency of the intake fan. The newer models are more efficient at pulling in high humidity air from the surrounding room, and use less energy to do so. As a result of the better fan system, the LP models are also slightly quieter. I’ll have a review of the GE ADER65LP dehumidifier up on the site soon.

The Controls Are A Snap to Operate

The control panel is digital and shows all of the essential functions you’ll need to operate the unit. Dehumidifiers work by pulling in humid air from the surrounding room using a set of fans. On the control panel you can control the fan speed. You have three setting options, High, Medium, and Low, which gives you a pretty good range to match the humidity levels in the room.

On the control panel you’ll also find the power button and a Delay Off button. The Delay Off function lets you set the ADER65 to turn off automatically in either 2 or 4 hours. This is an excellent power saving feature and prevents the dehumidifier from running constantly even when the room where it is located is not being used often.

You’ll also find the humidity level controls that will show the relative humidity level in the room as a percentage. You can adjust the humidity settings in increments of 5% between a range of 35% to 85% relative humidity. This is a wide range and good in comparison to many other dehumidifiers.

You also have the option to have the GE run in continuous mode. This means that it will run at the maximum settings regardless of the surrounding humidity levels. This is a great feature when you’re dealing with a really wet area that needs a lot of dehumidifying.

When the air enters the dehumidifier it passes through an air filter that captures dust and other particles that are in the air. The GE model has a high quality, washable air filter. On the control panel you’ll also see a nice indicator light that tells you when the filter needs to be cleaned. The light turns on after the dehumidifier has been operating for 250 hours.

The GE ADER65LN Dehumidifier’s Automated Safety Features

When humid air enters the GE ADER65 is passes over cold coils. The coils create condensation which then drips down into a container bucket. This is the same principal that works when you set a cold glass down on the table in a warm room. When the warm air hits the glass condensation forms and water starts dripping from the glass. So you need for a coaster for your table and a collection container for your dehumidifier.

When the container bucket is full you’ll see a light come on at the control panel. This lets you know it’s time to dump the water. Also if the bucket is full or you take it out for more than 3 minutes, an alarm will sound for about 10 seconds. This is simply another reminder to let you know to empty and put the bucket back in place.

Another safety feature in place is an auto shut off that turns the dehumidifier off when the collection bucket is full or removed. The fan continues to run for about 3 minutes before shutting off as well.

Removing the Collected Water

The GE ADER65LN offers 2 ways to remove the water that is collected from the air. First you can just pull the bucket out of the front by hand and dump it down the sink or use it to water some plants. The other option is to connect a garden hose (not included) and let gravity drain the water into a drain in the room. This a great way to just let the machine operate continuously without having to worry about checking to see if the bucket is full or not.

The GE ADER65LN is Energy Star Rated

energy-star-logo

The ADER65 has passed the US Department of Energy and EPA standards to become Energy Star certified. This means it uses up to 20% less energy than models not receiving certification. It also means that important parts of the dehumidifier are more efficient, including the compressor and fans. Energy star products are good for the environment and good for lowering your power bill.

Other Helpful Features

Auto defrost – At temperatures lower than 41 degrees Fahrenheit (5 Celsius) frost will build up on the cooling coils. This is typical of all dehumidifiers not just the GE model. When this happens, the ADER65 will turn the compressor off and run the fan until the frost melts. It will then start back up and begin dehumidifying again.

Auto-restart – If the power goes out, the GE will automatically restart and go back to the settings you had last programmed in. This is really nice because it can be a real pain to reset and turn back on all of your electronic devices after a storm. So with the ADER65, your dehumidifier is one less thing you have to worry about.
